Trust & safety

Safety in every trip, privacy in every record

People trust us with someone in crisis and with their most sensitive information. Here is how we earn that trust, on the road and in the platform.

In an emergency, call 911. For a mental health crisis, call or text 988. Forstter is not an emergency service.

Who we send

Checked before every shift

Every driver and sitter passes a KBI background check (and a motor vehicle record check for drivers), holds current CPR / first aid, and completes required training and policies. Dispatch can't assign anyone whose checks have lapsed.

Trained for crisis

Training covers trauma-informed de-escalation, safe transport, youth and competency transports, documentation and privacy, and is renewed every year.

Two-person crews

Transports that need two people get two people. The app won't let a crew depart without both members present.

During the trip

Inspected vehicles

A pre-trip inspection every shift. A failed critical item takes the vehicle out of service until it's fixed. Registration, insurance and safety inspections are tracked.

Chain of custody

Two identifiers checked at pickup, custody transfer and hand-off signed, belongings sealed and recorded, all in the app as it happens.

Seen live

Dispatch and the referring organization follow the vehicle on the map while the crew is on a job, with alerts if a trip runs late or contact is lost.

Sitting checks

Sitters record regular observation checks; anything concerning alerts dispatch straight away, and long sits get relief crews.

When plans change

If a person declines, isn't ready or the scene isn't safe, the crew stays with them and dispatch decides the next step with the facilities involved.

Incidents and notices

Incidents are reported from the app, reviewed by compliance, and the notices our KDADS contract requires are sent and tracked against their deadlines.

Protecting information

Forstter handles protected health information under HIPAA and signs a Business Associate Agreement with partner organizations.

Only the right people

  • Role-based access: each person sees what their job needs; partners see their own organization's referrals.
  • Two-step sign-in for every account, and sessions that lock when idle.
  • Everyone with access is HIPAA-trained.

Protected and recorded

  • Health details are encrypted in storage and in transit.
  • Every view and change of a record is in an audit log kept for seven years.
  • Email and text alerts never include health details; you sign in to see them.

The AI assistant

  • Read-only: it can't change anything and only sees what you can see.
  • Names, dates of birth and contact details are hidden from the AI provider until a Business Associate Agreement covers it.
  • No clinical, medication or legal advice; those questions go to a person.

Speech to text

  • On phones, dictation runs on the device.
  • On the web, audio goes only to our own transcription service, never to a browser maker's cloud.

Raise a concern

About a transport or a sit

Partners can raise a complaint in the Organization Portal under Feedback. We acknowledge it and tell you what changed.

Safety or privacy

Email safety@forstter.org, or privacy@forstter.org about a possible privacy issue.

Abuse or neglect

If you suspect a child or vulnerable adult is being abused or neglected, call the Kansas Protection Report Center at 1-800-922-5330. In immediate danger, call 911.
